Social and Cultural Justice
As new students arrive on campus in August during Welcome Week, the Multicultural Center hosts annual events to welcome new students to the Redbird family.
Multicultural Center kicks off the fall semester with a Family Reunion! Family Reunion welcomes students, staff, and faculty to an afternoon of music and fun. Expect a preview of the Black Student Union, Asian Pacific American Coalition, Association of Latin American Students, PRIDE, TRIBE, and other culturally based student organizations.
Graduate Recognition Ceremonies
Illinois State University offers opportunities for our minoritized/marginalized students to celebrate their communities and the close of their educational experience in culturally relevant ways. Four graduate recognition ceremonies are offered to our students. These ceremonies celebrate our students' accomplishments and successes, which are separate from the traditional commencement ceremonies. Participation in these ceremonies is completely voluntary and does not take the place of University Commencement.
The Safe(ish) series, formally known as Safe Zone, explores LGBTQ+ identity and provide sustainable and inclusive strategies that acknowledge, affirm, and advocate for gender expansive and LGBTQ+ identities. The two-hour session provides an opportunity for those seeking understanding and deeper commitments around disrupting oppression for the community. All Illinois State University students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend.
