The History of LGBTQ+ Support at ISU

Learn more about the university’s long-standing history with the LGBTQ+ community.

The following resources have been identified to help support those who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Statewide Resources

    • Equality Illinois

      Formerly Illinois Federation for Human Rights. Founded in 1991. The mission of Equality Illinois is to secure, protect, and defend the basic civil rights of LGBTQ+ persons in the state of Illinois. (Based in Chicago).

    • Illinois ACLU

      Fight civil liberties violations wherever and whenever they occur. This is the Illinois chapter of the national ACLU organization.

    • Windy City Times

      The Voice of Chicago's Gay, Lesbian, Bi, and Trans Community Since 1985. Weekly and monthly LGBTQ+ publications from Chicago's Windy City Media Group.

      LGBTQ+ student organization at Illinois State University

    • Queer Coalition

      The Queer Coalition at Illinois State University is a faculty, staff, and graduate student affinity group for LGBTQ2IA+ Central Illinoisans

  • Community Resources

    • Prairie Pride Coalition

      Dedicated to the implementation of full civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ people in Bloomington-Normal.
